■Heritage Ballet Summer Academy 2018

Eldar continues to bring his many talents to the ballet world and has decided to shares these with his own Summer Academy in St Petersburg, which had its inaugural season in 2015.
One of the 20th centuries most talented ballerinas, Irina Kolpakova studied under one of ballet’s most prestigious teachers, founder of the Vaganova method in St. Petersburg, the wonderful Agrippina Vaganova herself.
Irina is the embodiment of all that ballet wishes to be. Her dance was distinguished by the ideal form, crystal purity of lines, striking lightness. Her style of dance mirrored perfectly her personality and disposition. It has been said that ‘her perfect art is calm, without any pathos and strain, convincing us that the ideals of kindness, love, beauty are eternal’.
The virtuosity that Irina Kolpakova displayed often surpassed other performers and her interpretations of major roles of the classical repertoire, including Giselle, Raymonda, La Sylphide, Masha (Clara) in the Nutcracker, Princess Aurora in Sleeping Beauty, were all danced with an unparalleled understanding of Petipa’s style and Tchaikovsky’s music which all contributed to her quick rise to Prima Ballerina.
Her talents continued to blossom when she took on new roles with contemporary choreographers, such as Yuri Grigorovich, Igor Belsky, Leonid Yakobson, Natalia Kasatkina and Vladimir Vasilyev, creating roles from Shirin in the Legend of Love and Katerina in the Stone Flower, to Eve in the Creation of the World.
In more recent times, Irina has shared her unique experience with young dancers, as ballet mistress and coach at the Kirov (Mariinsky) Theatre, the American Ballet Theatre (ABT) and Ballet Internationale. Throughout her career this exceptionally talented dancer has won many prizes and accolades, amongst them the prestigious People’s Artist of the USSR and the highest award of recognition by her government. On the 2nd session Irina Kolpakova will advise the Technique &Variations classes by Natalia Raldygina.
A graduate of Leningrad Choreographic School (now the Vaganova Academy) from the class of Vladimir Ponomarev, from 1950 to 1972 Vladlen as a Principal dancer at the Kirov (Mariinsky) Theatre. He was known as a slender dancer with a proud bearing and elegant manner. His light and airy jumps much admired, leading to him becoming one of the main performers of the roles of noble heroes. Vladlen was taller than the norm at the time, but this became an absolute advantage when he danced duets, making the ballerina look especially fragile and feminine. He used these natural qualities to form an expressive, emotional and inspired performance, which was noted and praised by the ballet critics at the time.
A classical dancer of the purest academic standard and a ‘pas de deux’ master, he became the desired partner of many ballerinas. However, it was Irina Kolpakova, who captured his heart and not only became his dancing partner, but his wife too. Their duets were acclaimed across Russia, as well as abroad. Vladlen began teaching at the Vaganova Academy whilst still at the peak of his dance career and this continued until 1998 when he moved to the USA to join Ballet Internationale as ballet master and coach. Vladilen Semenov talents were recognised in his homeland and he was awarded People’s Artist of the USSR in 1983.
